About

Hello!

I’m Mary and the owner of The Nuthatch. My path to herbalism and birth support was born from my own health and pregnancy experiences. I am dedicated to a holistic approach that respects both the timeless wisdom of tradition and the insights of modern science.

To me herbal medicine is so much more than just a plant to substitute a pharmaceutical. It is about creating a healthy lifestyle that allows us to be involved in our days, involved in our families, and involved in our community. When we take care of ourselves we take better care of everything that we love. That’s why my services not only discuss herbs but also delve into discussions about diet, exercise, sleep, and community.

Health is something that is intensely personal and I rarely believe in a one size fits all approach to health. My approach is individualized so that we can find the way to achieve your health goals that fits where you are now.

Herbalism is also a way to connect and pay homage to the land. Our health and our planet’s health is inextricably entwined. All the products crafted at the Nuthatch reflect my commitment to using carefully sourced ingredients – organic, wild foraged or locally grown. This care is taken not only out of respect for you and your body but to our grandchildren's bodies and this earth.

When I’m not pouring my heart into the Nuthatch, I’m usually out in the sun/wind/snow/rain with my husband and daughter. I love to explore new places and try to grow new plants in my garden.

Why the Nuthatch?

Nuthatches are sweet little birds who frequented my mother’s bird feeder while I was growing up. My mother and my nanna loved birds and would tell us the names of all the bird we’d see on the feeders - the tufted titmouse with its mohawk, the mourning dove with its haunting call, the goldfinches so yellow and bright, the two different woodpeckers undistinguishable to me, the juncos so dark and only visit in winter - the list went on. The nuthatch was my favorite bird to watch because it can walk headfirst down a tree!

Oftentimes with health challenges, we have to look at things from another direction and the nuthatch always reminds me to do so.
